Functions of Each Component of Jaw Crusher

A jaw crusher mainly consists of frame, eccentric shaft, large pulley, flywheel, movable jaw, side guard plates, toggle plate, return spring and fixed jaw plate. These parts work together to enable the crusher to complete crushing tasks efficiently and steadily.

  1. Frame: As the core supporting structure of the jaw crusher, the frame is a rigid four-wall frame open at the top and bottom. It supports the eccentric shaft and bears reaction force generated by crushed materials, so excellent strength and rigidity are required. Frames are generally cast integrally from cast steel; cast iron can be used as an alternative for small-sized units.
  2. Jaw plates and side guard plates: Jaw plates are divided into fixed jaw plate and movable jaw plate. Both are mounted on the jaw stock to form the working part of the crusher. They are firmly secured by bolts and wedge blocks to ensure stable performance during operation.
  3. Transmission parts: The eccentric shaft, the core transmission component of the jaw crusher, bears heavy bending and torsional loads. It is normally fabricated from high-carbon steel and undergoes precision machining and heat treatment for outstanding durability and performance. A pulley is fitted at one end of the eccentric shaft and a flywheel at the other to balance machine movement and store energy.
  4. Adjustment device: Jaw crushers are equipped with multiple adjustment devices to control discharge opening size, including wedge type, shim type and hydraulic type. The wedge type is the most common. It consists of front and rear wedge blocks. A screw drives the rear wedge block to move up and down for precise adjustment of discharge opening dimension.
  5. Flywheel: The flywheel is responsible for energy storage. It accumulates energy during the idle stroke of the movable jaw and releases it in the crushing stroke, making machine operation more uniform. The pulley also functions as a flywheel, usually made of cast iron or cast steel for sufficient strength and durability.
  6. Lubrication device: A centralized circulating lubrication system is fitted to ensure smooth operation of the eccentric shaft bearings. Meanwhile, grease is applied to the supporting surfaces of the spindle and toggle plate via a manual grease gun to reduce friction and extend service life.
